Here is the graph of $y = 2x + 1$ again

When $x = 0$ we can see that $y = 1$ . Remember that $x = 0$ is the y-axis. So, when $x = 0$ , the line crosses the y-axis.

Remember also that $y = 0$ is the x-axis. What is the value of $x$ when $y = 0$ ?

$y = 2x + 1$

$o = 2x + 1$

$2x + 1 = 0$

$2x = -1$

$x = -\frac{1}{2}$
