Pythagoras’s theorem part four

Here we have a right angled triangle with the sides labelled.

We know that h² = a² + b²

Here h = 10, b = 5 and a is unknown. We want to know what a is.

We substitute the values we know into the equation

h² = a² + b²

10² = a² + 5²

100 = a² + 25

75 = a²

a = √75

a = 8.66
