Odd and even numbers

An integer is even if, when it is divided by two, the result is another integer.

Zero is also even because 0/2 = 0

One isn’t even because one divided by two is \frac{1}{2}. Two is even. Three isn’t…

Every second integer starting at 0 on the number line is even.
Every second integer starting at 1 on the number line is odd.

All the numbers ending in 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8 produce an integer when they are divided by two. They are all even.

All the numbers ending in 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9 produce a fraction when they are divided by two. They are all odd.
